Waste heat recovery from a marine waste incinerator using a thermoelectric generator
2012
Published version of an article published in the journal: Journal of Electronic Materials. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11664-012-2009-6 A marine waste incinerator has been evaluated for waste heat harvesting using thermoelectric generators (TEG). The application has been evaluated using mathematical modeling to optimize the heat exchanger and some vital design parameters of the TEG. The calculation shows that it is possible to extract 58 kW el at a price of 6.6 US$/W from an 850-kW th incinerator when optimizing for maximum power. However, minimizing the cost, it is possible to get 25 kW el at a price of 2.5 US$/W. A trade-off between the two targets lea…
IT-sikkerhetspolicy for Integrerte operasjoner
2007
Evagination of Cells Controls Bio-Silica Formation and Maturation during Spicule Formation in Sponges
2011
The enzymatic-silicatein mediated formation of the skeletal elements, the spicules of siliceous sponges starts intracellularly and is completed extracellularly. With Suberites domuncula we show that the axial growth of the spicules proceeds in three phases: (I) formation of an axial canal; (II) evagination of a cell process into the axial canal, and (III) assembly of the axial filament composed of silicatein. During these phases the core part of the spicule is synthesized. Silicatein and its substrate silicate are stored in silicasomes, found both inside and outside of the cellular extension within the axial canal, as well as all around the spicule. The membranes of the silicasomes are inte…
Norske ledere i fremmedkulturelle situasjoner : en kvalitativ studie av beslutningsadferd i Maritime Hydraulics AS
2004
Hovedoppgave i Industriell økonomi og informasjonsledelse, Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad Dagens ledere står overfor stadig nye utfordringer, for eksempel gjennom økt internasjonalisering. Nye utfordringer gjør lederadferd viktigere enn noen gang.
2015
Masteroppgave i mekatronikk - Universitetet i Agder, 2015 In the o shore industry there is a need to compensate motions caused by waves and wind. It is important if loading is to be transferred from one vessel to another in a safe and e cient manner. To make this happend, the relative movement between the two vessels must be measured. A common way for doing this is to use a MRU (Motion Reference unit). This measures the orientation of boat related to world coordinates. This assignement is based on a scenario where two vessels are in motion related to the world coordinate system asynchronously relative to each other. A MRU on one of the vessels will not be able to measure this movement on it…
Mooring Analysis of a Dual-Spar Floating Wind Farm With a Shared Line
2021
AbstractWind farms with shared mooring lines have the potential to reduce mooring costs. However, such wind farms may encounter complex system dynamics because adjacent wind turbines are coupled. This paper presents an analysis of the shared mooring system with a focus on the system natural periods. We first apply Irvine’s method to model both the shared line and the two-segment single lines. The response surface method is proposed to replace iterations of the catenary equations of the single lines, and a realistic single line design is presented for OC3 Hywind. Then, system linearization and eigenvalue analysis are performed for the wind farm consisting of two spar floating wind turbines, …
Improvement of a low-cost buoy for the measurement of the sea wave weather
2021
This article presents the result of an experimental meteorological buoy designed by the Department of Engineering of the University of Palermo, characterized by low costs and great versatility, and equipped with industrially certified measuring and detection instruments. This buoy can measure the parameters of the water column and continuously transmit the data to a remote acquisition centre. Maintenance requirements are very limited.
ANTARES: The first undersea neutrino telescope
2011
The ANTARES Neutrino Telescope was completed in May 2008 and is the first operational Neutrino Telescope in the Mediterranean Sea. The main purpose of the detector is to perform neutrino astronomy and the apparatus also offers facilities for marine and Earth sciences. This paper describes the design, the construction and the installation of the telescope in the deep sea, offshore from Toulon in France. An illustration of the detector performance is given. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
